Fire has a key role to play in the chaparral. It is a part of nature. It seemed  like total devastation at first, but with the coming of spring also came new life. Wildflower seeds that have been laying dormant under the protection of the trees and shrubs germinated under the conditions of fire and blanketed the hills with a rainbow of colors, textures, and smells.
