PHENOLOGY  is the study of periodic plant and animal life cycle events and how these are influenced by variations in climate and  habitat factors.

It is principally concerned with dates and first occurences of biological events in their annual cycles.  For Example:

• emergence date of leaves and flowers
• first flight of butterflies
• arrival of migratory birds
• changes in leaf colors
• fall of first leaves in Autumn
